The Quality of Services by our Emergency Management Department

Mining Skills Australia‘s own Emergency Management Department Manager, Rachel Hawker was on site a few weeks ago, visiting our Paramedic Team at Goldings, Baralaba.

Seeing the guys in action and interacting with their Crews and Managements Team, emphasised how professional and committed they are to site.

Whilst their primary function is Patient Care, the Paramedics are also involved in providing up to date Training to their ERT Crew’s – holding refresher’s courses on everything from CPR to snake bites!

They are respected and regarded on site and work seamlessly together as a team.

Rachel Hawker, Project Manager for the Emergency Management Department of Mining Skills Australia, along with her team of Paramedics, recently got a wonderful opportunity to visit Isaac Downs Mine Site at Moranbah.

The introduction of EPSA to Australia has opened opportunities for Mining Skills Australia to develop and assist them with Paramedics and an Emergency Response Team on site.

Mining Skills Australia provide Paramedics, Credentialling, clinical Governance, Medical Oversight & Drug/Poisons Licence to ensure safety by complying to QLD Health standards.

With that support, MSA organised a full clinical setup, Paramedic & Drug Compliancy and Ambulance services within 24 hours with our highly qualified Medical Service Team at EPSA, Isaac Downs Mine site.

The entire process was seamless with an appreciable effort from the team of EPSA to the site management team.

To achieve the desirable result of smooth transition within 24 hours, teamwork played a vital role as they demonstrated their support, leadership, and flexibility.

With that, the paramedics were also able to assist EPSA by providing inputs and analysing their Emergency Response plans.

Mining Skills Australia will also assist EPSA with providing Cert III in Mines rescue for all ERT Crews.

Mining Skill Australia will also continue to provide trainers, gap analysis, training matrix’s and 12-month training plans which will aid in focused and experienced Emergency Response Site wide.

Compared to previous times, mining is substantially safer, however, fundamentally it can be challenging and risk to injury to personnel is still something to be conscious of.

With opportunities to potential risks, several operations at various Mine sites within Australia, aim to include Emergency Response Team (ERT) to respond to the dangerous incidents.

The members of the Emergency Response Team are highly skilled and trained to handle any hazardous incidents.

In the Resource Industry, Paramedics established a pivotal role on site as they are the first contact regarding injuries or illness in a mine site.

Mining Skills Australia provides Paramedic services to various mine sites which involves varying responsibilities such as completion of drug and alcohol screening, attending to patient’s needs, liaising with the onsite safety team, escalating matters accordingly and complete any admin related tasks including kit checks and site familiarisation.

In conjunction with the Paramedic services, Mining Skill Australia focuses on providing the training services to the ERT at Mine sites building teams skill sets including First Aid, CPR, Road Crash Rescue, and Hazardous Material Management.

The training services are supported by the theoretical learning as well as hands-on practical with any equipment in numerous scenarios. The emphasis is on learning outcomes and trainer interaction.

Strengthened by training arrangements along with professional interaction by our paramedics, the ERT team on site can enhance their skills in emergency conditions.

In addition to training, the awareness talk by our paramedics explores the experiences of the onsite crews on health and safety concerns.

Overall, the aim of safety maintenance is fulfilled by our proficient team of paramedics.

Mining Skills Australia specialises in providing comprehensive emergency response services in the Resources Industry.

Through clinical governance, medical oversight, and drug licensing we ensure that our clients are compliant to Mining Health and Safety Legislation and Mining Emergency response guidance.
