Mining Skills Australia Mongolia was on site in the South Gobi Desert, Mongolia last week attending Mak Mining, open cut operation.

Mining Skills Australia was able to showcase our digital learning and development technologies that further support operator and supervision training.

This upskilling will increase employee productivity, proficiency, safety and preventive maintenance.

Mining Skills Australia‘s Director Andy Holder also provided a snapshot observation across their load and haul operations and his findings and recommendations were also presented.

The Mining Skills Australia‘s Animation team visited Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine site to get reference images, videos and documentation for an upcoming project.

The Animation team’s mantra is “we can never have too many references” and visiting a site allows them to get what they need in person, allowing for unparalleled detail and machine operation accuracy, scaling to equipment and environment size.

This latest animation was achieved by observing real life footage while trying to replicate all the natural actions and environment, including observing the lighting and adding a hand held motion to the camera angle created, driving a realistic mood to the presentation.

At @MiningSkillsAustralia we offer you a similar experience with one of the biggest technology trends, @AugmentedReality (AR). Linking the physical world to the digital platform, AR acts a channel between machines and humans. This growing technology allows @Miningskillsaustralia to expand its horizon and offer a hands-on approach towards teaching, allowing a 569-tonne excavator to land in front of you or even on the palm of your hand by simply using your tablet or mobile device.

Being challenging to deploy, the animators of @MiningSkillsAustralia use their knowledge and experienced gained through an innumerable iterative process to create a real time immersive experience for our users, augmenting the understanding through the medium of this technology.

In general, our animators use the assets from Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) to optimise AR. Additionally, the model is combined with virtual touch by applying an invisible mesh and then the models are pre-rigged in the animation. Machine Articulation and Rigging

It takes years of training, hours studying machinery and equipment movement, scrutinizing hundreds of OEM’s and Training Manuals, countless iterative changes and weeks of work to ensure that Mining Skills Animations, correctly represent real life machinery / equipment movement.

One of the processes that our animators use to create correct machine movement representation is through animation techniques called Articulation and Rigging.
