The RIISS00034 Skill Set is the latest nationally accredited unit that provides you with the skills and knowledge required to obtain a Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set. This unit will help you apply initial first aid , respond to local emergencies and incidents, comply with site work processes/procedures, and conduct local risk control.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no prerequisites required to enter this course. However, it is preferred that students:

• Are 18 years or older
• Have sound language and literacy skills (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent)
• Have basic computer skills

Tuition Fees and Training Delivery

Tuition: $600.00 per participant.

The Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) course is delivered face-to-face over 2 days (8:00am to 5:00pm), whereby upon successful completion of the written and practical assessments during the course, you will receive a Statement of Completion enabling you to commence work on the mine site. Students will be required to complete a mine on-site verification workbook within 6 months of the training (check with the employer/mine as some only give 3 months) and return it to us. On successful completion of the on-site verification workbook, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the relevant units of competency.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

Mining Skills Australia has Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy and Procedure to ensure that an individual’s prior learning achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences is appropriately recognised. This recognition may assist students to progress faster through a unit of competency or allow the student full credit.
